We’re very pleased to announce that Ian Rowlands is starting up a new course with us in Contemporary Portraiture for the Summer Term.
He says ‘Whilst remaining rooted in direct observation and the development of strong links between drawing and painting, this course acknowledges modern ways of working such as the use of photography and digital media/tablet drawing as a means of providing an extended period of experimentation to develop one’s own painterly language. Through sessions devoted to the exploration of composition, colour, mark making and materiality, students will work towards their own personal goals using studies made from the model and other sources. Approximately half of the studio time will be allocated to making studies directly from models.
This course is suitable for students with drawing experience wishing to investigate portraiture within the broader scope of contemporary painting. Regular attendance is vital’.
